Inspired by the incredible life and environmental legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, the Roots & Shoots National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) is a leadership experience for young change champions.
What is the NYLC?
Our National Youth Leadership Council are a passionate group of Australian young leaders who care deeply for animals, people and our shared environment. Members passionately share Dr. Jane’s message and act as the youth voice for Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Australia. The immersive 9-month experience features a blend of in-person and online sessions. We meet two to three times each month for mentoring sessions with environmental leaders and relaxed catch-ups with members living near you.

- Create friendships for life by connecting with like-minded peers across the world
- Connect with environmental leaders and explore their diverse careers

When will I hear back from you?
You can expect to hear back from our friendly NYLC team in early December to confirm if you have received an interview.
Who can apply?
Any Australian youth aged 16-24 who are excited to care for animals, people and the environment and keen to drive positive change.
Do I need a degree or experience to apply?
We value passion to care for animals, people and the environment, so there are no requirements besides age. However, if you have experience caring for the environment or are studying in a relevant area, this is a great chance to apply your learning!
