Why become a Chimp Champion?:
Did you know that chimpanzees are now listed as endangered? With as few as 172,000 remaining in the wild, our chimpanzees face many threats such as habitat loss, the commercial bush meat and illegal pet trades, and infectious diseases. But you can help! Through raising $50 or more, you can contact us and become part of our Junior Chimp Champion program. Jane Goodall Institute Australia (JGIA) will then work to provide a safe home for these orphaned chimps! It’s that easy! You can donate as an individual, group, classroom or the entire school, so ask your parents or teachers today to start your very own Junior Chimp Champion program!
Becoming a Chimp Champion changes two lives forever – theirs and yours!
If your school or class wants to make a difference by being a champion for Anzac the chimpanzee, you can help!
All you have to do is raise at least $50 and we will present your school with your very own Junior Chimp Champion certificate, along with Anzac’s story. Please contact us at rootsandshoots@janegoodall.org.au with your contact details and funds raised and we will organise your certificate or even a visit to your school!
What’s our goal?:
- Raise awareness to young and old in Africa and worldwide of the decline of chimpanzees
- Through the Chimp Championship, empower youth to participate in a global movement towards conservation
- Support the care and rehabilitation of orphaned chimpanzees
- Raise money to help JGIA protect wild chimpanzee populations
JGIA Conservation in Action:
To help orphaned chimpanzees ranging from infants, juveniles and adults, JGI operates the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre (TCRC) in Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo (Where is that?) where the chimps receive care and protection. TCRC is currently the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in Africa, providing sanctuary for more than 150 orphaned chimps. In 2011, TCRC was expanded to three islands in the nearby Kouilou River with nearly 100 times more forest area. These islands provide a natural setting for chimps to run virtually wild and free and by the end of 2017, will be home for 60 chimpanzees released from TCRC.
What your donation can do:
Funds raised through the JGIA Junior Chimp Champion program will contribute to the efforts of JGIA and TCRC. It will contribute towards* the islands, including a new veterinary lab, food storage area and a water system that ensures that all chimpanzees have continual access to drinking water in their dorms and enclosure. Your donations will also go towards education and engaging the youth of Africa through the TCRC Education Centre, where it will educate kids just like you about how to help create a stable population of wild chimpanzees in the Republic of Congo.
